What The Language Says About Our Health

It is said that the eyes are the reflection of the soul and the tongue the mirror of health.
What the language says about our health

Have you ever wondered  what the language says about our health? As children, we were taught that sticking our tongue out is rude. Even as adults, we avoid showing the tongue in public, because it’s not cute.

However, you can stand in front of a mirror and observe its appearance to draw conclusions about your health. Do you know  what the language says about our health?

The tongue: a reflection of health

For hundreds of years, Ayurvedic medicine experts have been examining the language of their patients to understand if they suffer from certain specific diseases.

According to this traditional medicine, the three parts of the tongue are: vata (root), pitta (middle) and kapha (tip). The color and appearance of the tongue can tell us whether we are healthy or not.

This is due to the fact that this muscle, which allows us to taste food, is an extension of the stomach and we can therefore examine it to understand our gastric state.

There are thousands of nerve endings in the language and each one (or several together) is associated with a different part of the body.

Tongue out

Your tongue is healthy when it appears smooth, flexible and crack-free and when it is kept slightly moist, that is, it produces no more or less saliva than necessary.

All of this indicates that you are in good health.

The white layer on the tongue is normal if it is thin enough. However, this aspect is not so much related to health as it is to hygiene and cleaning of the teeth and mouth.

To get rid of it, just be more careful when cleaning your tongue.

Color and surface of the tongue: signs to watch out for

There is no need to be an Ayurvedic doctor to understand if we have an illness or if we suffer from health problems.

It is enough to analyze two very important aspects of the language: the color and the state of its surface.

Color

A healthy tongue has a rosy color. On the other hand, if it appears dark red, it means that part of the body is inflamed and may even be a sign of cancer.

When the tongue has a brownish color or looks discolored, it is because you smoke too much. A deep pink, on the other hand, indicates scarlet fever (or scarlet fever).

If the tongue is pale, this indicates a nutrient deficiency and low hemoglobin levels in the blood. If the white layer that covers it is very thick, it may be a fungus (candidiasis) or an imbalance in the secretion of hepatic bile.

If the white layer is present only on the sides of the tongue, it may be due to a disease of the lungs. The yellowish tone, on the other hand, indicates cholecystitis.

Tongue seen up close

Appearance and surface

As we have already said, a healthy tongue must be smooth and moist. However, be careful, because if these two characteristics are extremely marked, they can indicate anemia or lack of iron.

If you notice spots on the top of the tongue, this is due to a vulnerability to allergies. Bubbles and sores on the tongue indicate excessive consumption of refined sugars, fats, or proteins.

When it appears dry, it indicates stress, but it can also be due to an excess of mucus in the body or the presence of anemia or diabetes.

If the tongue becomes very inflamed, the causes can be different, including acidity, constipation, diarrhea, or chronic gastritis. If the taste buds are flat (instead of being slightly rough) it is an intestinal disorder.

Warning signs on the tongue

Pay attention to the appearance of your tongue, as it may indicate the presence of diseases that you may not have noticed.

Crack in the middle

If the line doesn’t extend to the tip of your tongue, your stomach is weak or you suffer from digestive problems.

This is also due to a lack of nutrients. Maybe you suffer from intestinal gas or don’t have enough energy to make it through the day.

To solve this problem, you need to have a more balanced diet and you don’t have to mix certain food groups, such as fruit and protein.

Do everything you can to speed up digestion and eat a pear or an apple on an empty stomach.

Aphthae

When various canker sores appear in your mouth, and this happens often, you suffer from a deficiency of vitamin B, iron or niacin.

In this case, we advise you to increase your consumption of lentils, red meat, eggs and dairy products.

Make a nettle tea and, if the situation does not improve, do a blood test to see if you are anemic or not.

Dark tongue

Small horizontal cracks

When these small cracks appear, your body is not absorbing vitamins as it should.

Another symptom of this disorder is a lack of energy and vitality. Although the tongue has small “craters”, the problem arises when many deeper cracks appear.

The solution is to take those foods that improve spleen health such as barley, beetroot, oats, parsley, carrot, pumpkin, celery, cabbage and chard.

Red tip: what does the tongue say about our health?

When the tip of the tongue appears red, it is not so much a physical problem as an emotional problem.

Maybe you are too stressed, sad, depressed, anxious, distressed or nervous.

To avoid this, you must think positively and seek a solution to these problems, but you can also consume medicinal plants that reduce emotional imbalances.

Lemon balm, lime, chamomile and valerian can be very useful to you. At mealtimes, on the other hand, increase your consumption of avocado, cucumber and almonds.

Tongue swollen and with a thick white layer

Appearance of the tongue

These symptoms indicate a buildup of mucus in the body or a shortage of “good” bacteria (yes, because not all of them are harmful).

To combat this problem, we advise you to abandon the consumption of dairy products and increase that of green ingredients (broccoli, cabbage, peas, lettuce, celery, chard, spinach).

Now that you know what the language says about our health, observe it more often.
