Foods to help you sleep better

1. Almond milk and honey

In our blog we have talked to you on several occasions about the benefits of a teaspoon of honey to enjoy a deeper and more restorative rest.

  • One natural resource we’ve all tried a few times is a glass of warm milk with some honey. Well, since not everyone tolerates lactose well, we can replace cow’s milk with almond milk.
  • Almonds are rich in tryptophan and magnesium, two substances that combined with honey promote rest. Honey, for its part, is able to increase the levels of insulin in the blood and thus stimulate the production of tryptophan in the brain. In this way, it provides a good dose of serotonin which helps us to relax and enjoy a deeper rest.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of honey (25 g)
  • 1 glass of almond milk (200 g)

Preparation

  • The first thing we’re going to do is heat the milk. It must be warm, not too hot. We must remember that very hot drinks are not good for our liver.
  • We add the spoonful of honey and take the drink half an hour before going to bed. It will allow you to sleep better.

2. Oat and banana milk for better sleep

We know that bananas are usually not good for everyone (especially in the evening). Yet if we choose a banana that is not too ripe and grind it in the blender along with a glass of oat milk, we will discover the benefits that promote our rest.

Banana is rich in tryptophan and, just like honey, releases a higher level of serotonin. On the other hand, oats, taken warm, are an excellent remedy for rest. It is worth considering.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana not overripe
  • 1 glass of oat milk (200 ml)

Preparation

It’s very simple. Just heat a glass of oat milk and put it in the blender along with the banana. It is recommended to take the drink one hour before going to sleep.

3. Cherry juice

Cherry juice

Delicious, vitamin and relaxing. Cherry juice is a medicinal remedy for sleeping better and fighting insomnia.

  • In this case, the secret is not tryptophan, but melatonin, a substance secreted by the pineal gland that allows us to regulate many of our cycles such as, for example, rest.
  • Rest experts recommend taking two glasses a day. One in the afternoon and another two hours before bedtime . The effect is cumulative and, in addition, we will get a high level of antioxidants to take care of our heart and liver health.
  • You can find natural juice in supermarkets or prepare it yourself during the season by putting ten cherries in the blender along with a glass of water.

4. Infusion of valerian, passion flower and lemon balm

infusion of valerian
  • You can find this wonderful combination in any herbal shop. Valerian is one of the most powerful plants in terms of sedative and anxiolytic properties.
  • Combining valerian, passion flower and lemon balm will facilitate our rest and prevent, for example, making us wake up frequently during the night.
  • These plants have relaxing properties for our muscles, therefore they avoid the contractions produced by tension.

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon of powdered valerian (3 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon of dried lemon balm leaves (1.2 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon of dried passionflower leaves (1.2 g)
  • 1 glass of water (200 ml)

Preparation

  • You will prepare this infusion in just over 15 minutes. You just have to heat the water, add the indicated quantities of the various ingredients and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  • Filter the infusion and serve it in a nice cup.
  • For this remedy to be effective, we need to be consistent and have a cup of it every night.

Among all the remedies proposed, just choose the one that is good for us. The only thing we have to do is go to sleep at the same time every day and turn off all our electronic devices 2 hours before going to sleep.
