What kind of spots do you have?

The most common types of spots on the face are:

Freckles

They are the most common stains. Small in size and with a brown and homogeneous color, the appearance is due to exposure to sunlight. They are easy to eliminate with laser treatments.

Melasma

Melasma on the cheek
The spots appear mainly on the face of women. To prevent them, apply a photoprotective filter every day.

The cause is to be found in hormonal changes due to menopause, pregnancy, thyroid abnormalities or the use of the contraceptive pill. Melasma appears on the upper lip, cheeks, forehead or chin. It is more difficult to get rid of, but there are specific treatments, such as medical peels or depigmenting creams.

If the onset is attributable to the birth control pill, once you stop taking it it will go away on its own. 90% of women suffer from it, while in men it appears only following antibiotic therapy. Before taking certain medications it is always important to apply an effective photoprotective filter.

Other causes

  • Metabolic or nutritional factors: due to a lack of vitamin C, B or zinc.
  • Inflammatory pigmentation : caused by a sunburn or scar following surgery.
  • White spots: appear on the arms and legs and are due to sun damage. Furthermore, due to aging, the skin no longer produces melanin, so the skin remains white. This group of spots is also associated with hepatic or endocrinological disorders.

Why does the skin get stained?

The spots tend to appear as a result of exposure to ultraviolet rays after years, as a result of the mechanism known as photoaging. This occurs due to dehydration, peeling and thinning of the skin, but also due to poor skin elasticity, which gives rise to wrinkles and dreadful spots.

The Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SIME) adds that the causes of skin aging are to be found in:

  • Internal factors, such as metabolic syndrome and genetics.
  • External factors, such as solar radiation, pollution in general and air pollution, dietary habits, alcohol and tobacco consumption and stress.

Tips on how to cover face blemishes with makeup

1. The secret is the basis

Corrective makeup
A good foundation helps to show off a homogeneous and blemish-free facial skin.

To obtain a homogeneous base, without darker or shiny points, the skin type must be taken into account. For oily skin, a light base is suitable, applied with a moistened sponge or one with a mattifying effect (stick or powder).

For dry skin, however, cream makeup is fine. The ideal application consists in tapping the product all over the face and massaging it gently.

Finally, for normal skin the ideal is a moisturizing or compact fluid that does not dry the dermis. If your skin is already mature, you will need an anti-aging cream product or a fluid with a tightening effect.

2. The concealer, a must to cover blemishes

There are several concealers to cover various imperfections:

  • Apply a light concealer to hide dark spots, dark circles and pimples. Furthermore, it is useful for enhancing the areas of the face damaged by age and stress.
  • The dark concealer defines larger areas of the face, such as the cheeks or the side of a wider nose.
  • The green concealer serves to hide redness and small veins.

3. Use your gaze to cover blemishes

Light dark eyeshadow
Match the shades according to your needs for an intense and radiant look.
  • Smokey-eyes : the light and bright shades serve to highlight, while the dark ones reduce, giving depth.
  • Mascara : they exist to lengthen, give volume and make lashes thicker, but also to curl them and even transparent ones.
  • Eye pencil : essential for changing its shape. If you use a pencil or a brush it will be more natural. In liquid version it helps to give a more sophisticated look.

We advise you to follow these tips to camouflage and cover spots. When you are done with your make-up , apply a fixing spray to your face to make the make-up last longer.
