To make a delicious Monte Cristo sandwich you need a good Swiss cheese

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of butter (60 g)
  • 1/2 cup of milk (125 ml)
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices of white bread for sandwiches
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar (15 g)
  • 2 tablespoons of strawberry jam (to taste) (40 g)

Preparation

  • Put the slices of white bread on a large plate. The ideal is to prepare doses for 4 sandwiches in total.
  • On each slice of bread, alternate a slice of ham with one of cheese.
  • Continue until you have covered all the sandwiches.
  • In a small saucepan or bowl, beat the eggs along with the cup of milk.
  • Once this is done, dip the other slices of bread (those without ham or cheese) in the beaten egg.
  • Then, use a large griddle or a smooth-surfaced pan, and put the butter in it. As it melts, sprinkle it on the bottom of the pan to grease it.
  • As soon as the butter starts to fry, add the sandwiches and let them cook (turning occasionally) for about 7 or 10 minutes.
  • Finally, when they have reached the desired browning, remove them from the pan and let them cool for a few seconds.
  • Cut them in half and let the melted Swiss cheese spread. Finally, add a sprinkling of powdered sugar and, if you like, spread some jam.
